ROLEX & FIA WEC: A Decade of Perfect Timing

Marking ten years as Official Timepiece of the FIA World Endurance Championship, Rolex celebrates a partnership defined by precision, performance, and a shared pursuit of excellence at the pinnacle of endurance racing.

In endurance racing, time is the ultimate measure - of precision, consistency, and the ability to perform under sustained pressure. For the past decade, Rolex has stood at the heart of this demanding discipline, reinforcing its commitment to excellence as Official Timepiece of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Since the partnership began in 2016, the FIA WEC has evolved into the leading global platform for endurance racing. This period has seen the championship grow in both competitiveness and international stature, supported by technical innovation and the increasing presence of major manufacturers. Rolex’s enduring involvement has played a role in enhancing the prestige and overall experience of the series for drivers, teams, and spectators alike.

A defining milestone came in 2021 with the introduction of the Hypercar class, transforming the competitive landscape and attracting leading automotive brands to the championship. The category has intensified on-track action while elevating the spectacle for fans worldwide. This momentum was further strengthened in 2023 through regulatory alignment with IMSA, enabling the world’s most advanced prototype cars to compete across both championships and reinforcing endurance racing’s global reach.

The past decade has also delivered a series of defining sporting moments. Mark Webber’s record-setting lap at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 remains a benchmark of precision and performance. In 2023, Jenson Button competed at the centenary edition of Le Mans in the innovative Garage 56 entry - an experience that led him to pursue endurance racing full-time in the Hypercar class. His subsequent performances, including Cadillac’s first one-two finish in São Paulo and a fastest lap at Imola, underline the importance of timing in determining race outcomes.

That same intensity continues to define the modern grid. Five years into the Hypercar era, competition remains closer than ever, with races frequently decided by the smallest of margins. Nyck de Vries’ victory at the 2025 season finale in Bahrain exemplifies the composure required to succeed, delivering under pressure in the decisive final stages. As the field grows stronger, success becomes both more challenging and more rewarding.

The 2026 season will feature eight rounds across multiple continents, with a record-equalling grid and the addition of new entrants such as Genesis Magma Racing. As Rolex marks a decade of partnership with the FIA WEC, its presence remains a constant - underscoring the essential role of time in every lap, every pit stops and every defining moment. In endurance racing, where excellence is measured in fractions of a second, time ultimately defines champions.

FIA WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP (WEC)

Established in 2012 by the FIA and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, the FIA World Endurance Championship is the premier global endurance racing series. Its races range from six hours to the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 2026 season comprises eight rounds across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North and South America, featuring a 35-car grid from 14 manufacturers competing in the Hypercar and LMGT3 categories.

ROLEX AND MOTOR SPORT

Rolex’s association with motor sport dates to the 1930s, when Sir Malcolm Campbell set land speed records wearing a Rolex Oyster. Today, the brand is aligned with the sport’s most prestigious championships and events, including the FIA WEC, IMSA and the Triple Crown of Endurance Racing. Rolex supports both legendary figures - such as Sir Jackie Stewart, Tom Kristensen, Mark Webber and Jenson Button - and a new generation of talent shaping the future of endurance racing.
