Minjee Lee wins second major title with U.S. Women's Open 2022 victory
After 54 holes fired -13 strokes, Minjee Lee took a three-shot lead into the final round in the knowledge she would need to conquer the toughest conditions of the tournament to win the U.S. Women's Open 2022.
Entering the decision round, the WA native scored 2 birdies to quickly extend the lead. 2 bogeys on the fifth and seventh holes kept Lee in check, but with all her competitors struggling with the tough set-up at Pine Needles, her lead was never threatened.
Lee's four-shot victory has earned her the tournament's $US1.8 million ($2.5 million) winner's prize — the largest in women's golf history. The victory was Lee's second of golf's major championships after her victory at The Evian in 2021.
“It’s been my dream since I was a little girl,” said Lee. “It’s the one that I always wanted to win on; now I’ve done it, and it just feels amazing.”
Meanwhile, Mina Harigae achieved 72 strokes, scoring a total -9 strokes to finish T-2 after 72 holes. World No. 1 golfer Ko Jin Young ranked 4th with a total score of -6, behind fellow compatriot Choi Jin Hye (-7 strokes). Returning after 4 months of convalescence, Nelly Korda tied for 8th with -2 strokes.

Lee is the third Australian to win the US Women’s Open, the biggest event in female golf, after Karrie Webb (2000 and 2001) and Jan Stephenson. The win also elevated Lee into an esteemed company as only the sixth Australian golfer to have captured multiple majors.
