Justin Thomas won the PGA Championship after three-hole playoff
PGA Championship 2022 witnessed the spectacular breakthrough of Justin Thomas. On the first day of competition, Rory McIlroy was the top golfer in the leaderboard. And on the penultimate round, Chilean golfer Mito Pereira was considered to have more chances to win the major title when he was 3 strokes ahead of the group.

However, Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris put in an impressive performance in the final round, both holding 5-under scores after 72 holes, prompting the fifth three-hold playoff in PGA Championship history.
Thomas and Zalatoris matched birdies on the first playoff hole, the par-5 13th. Thomas then picked up the edge by getting a birdie on the 17th hole, while Zalatoris settled for par after narrowly missing a birdie putt. Zalatoris had a chance to catch up to Thomas on the third playoff hole, the par-4 18th.

After three holes, Thomas ended with his second major victory as he lifted the famous Wanamaker Trophy for the second time having previously won it in 2017. Justin Thomas will be receiving a pretty payday to go along with his PGA Championship title. He earned $2.7 million of the tournament-record $15 million prize pool for coming in first. Zalatoris will also take home a seven-figure prize of $1.62 million.
Behind Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris are Cameron Young and Mito Pereira (tied for T-3) with a total score of -4 strokes.Tommy Fleetwood, Chris Kirk, and Matthew Fitzpatrick tied for 5th with a total score of -3 strokes.
