The 2022 U.S. Women's Open sets purse record

Women's major organized by the American Golf Association (USGA) officially holds the record for the highest prize pool in women's golf. Last year's US Women's Open purse was just at $5.5 million, and the champion received 1 million USD.
But now, everything has changed. The U.S. Women's Open 2022 nearly doubled the prize fund with 10 million USD. The winner will receive $1.8 million and the runner-up will earn over $1 million. Even players who missed the cut will earn a "stipend" of $8,000. Compared to the other female championships, the U.S. Women's Open has the largest prize fund.

The increase means those who made it to the weekend in North Carolina will receive paychecks similar to those handed out weekly in the men’s game, and sets the stage for broader purse increases throughout the sport.
In short, the historic money flowing into the U.S. Women’s Open is a big deal to those in and around the women’s game, particularly those who see their responsibility to the sport in ensuring a fairer, more lucrative future.

“It’s really important that organizations like the USGA buy in and increase the purses. It levels it up for everyone else to have to compete with that and level it up. It’s always really important for that first buy-in to increase the purse. The USGA has done such an amazing job over the years to always be that pioneer”, Michelle Wie-West said.
The USGA is aiming to raise the US Women's Open prize fund to $12 million over the next five years. This year, the US Women's Open takes place at Pine Needles, North Carolina from June 2 to 5.
