Streb and Walker share lead at Round 2 PGA Championship 2016

Streb certainly got going on Friday at Baltusrol, making eight birdies and a lone bogey to become the 28th player to shoot 63 in a major championship. Coupled with a solid 68 in the opening round, he finds himself on top of the leaderboard.
You might have seen Streb coming, but let's be honest: No, you didn't. Streb, 29, starred at Kansas State and won the 2015 McGladrey Classic, but he has missed nine cuts this season and hasn't notched a single top 10.

You might have also seen Walker coming, but let's be honest: No, you didn't. He's a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, but he hasn't had a top-10 finish since March. His last win? Sixteen months ago, at the Valero Texas Open. Even Jimmy couldn't have seen Jimmy coming. Walker took the first-round lead with a five-under 65, and when asked afterward how he'd size up his season, he used these words: "Real stale and stagnant."

Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth, carved a 67 - ranking 13th, was facing a ruling situation. The trouble began when Spieth missed the seventh fairway, on his 16th hole of the day, wide right. His ball wound up in a puddle, and he conferenced with a PGA rules official. To take relief from both the puddle and the cart path, he'd have wound up dropping in a pine tree, which he obviously didn't want. So he took relief from only the casual water. He took a drop. He took another drop. He finally got to place the ball.
After the lengthy deliberation, which took 15 minutes as playing partners Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson waited up ahead, Spieth ended up with a clean lie on the gravel path and hooked his second around the stand of trees on the way to making bogey. Fortunately, there was no penalty.

On the other hand, world no.1 Jason Day and no.5 Henrik Stenson were having one of their good days. Day shares a third with Emiliano Grillo at 7-under par. Stenson remains at 5th with 6-under par, 67. One of the impressive golfers yesterday was Patrick Reed, who jumped 30 ranks to place 6th with 5-under par, 70.

Some of the biggest stars of the PGA Tour will not be playing the weekend at the 2016 PGA Championship at Baltusrol. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia all missed the cut on Friday and will head home without a chance to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy.
- Dustin Johnson (Source: Internet)
The most surprising of all was Dustin Johnson, who won the U.S. Open and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational earlier this summer. Johnson had a disastrous nine over score by the end of the second round. The poor result breaks Johnson's streak of 25 straight events without missing a cut.
- Rory McIlroy (Source: Internet)
Sergio Garcia had been playing well of late and had high hopes of capturing the first major of his career this week, but he will have to wait until next year after shooting a four-over 74 on Friday. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy's struggles continued in round 2 resulting in his second missed cut at a major this year, mostly thanks to his poor putting on the greens. Matt Kuchar, who will be representing the U.S. at the Rio Olympics next month, finished at six over, four shots above the cut line.
