2016 Omega European Masters will be the 70th time the event will be staged at the picturesque Crans course which is set amidst the Swiss Alps. The tournament is the longest running at the same venue in Europe and second in the world after The Masters at Augusta National.

  1. The Omega European Masters is the first event to be sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour on European soil since 2009.
  1. David Lipsky of the United States is the only Asian Tour member to win the Swiss showpiece in 2014.
  1. Danny Willett of England will defend the Omega European Masters title this year. He won the event last year and earlier in 2016 was triumphant at The Masters for his first Major victory.
  1. The Omega European Masters will be staged for the 70th time at the stunning Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club and will remain host until 2022 after the existing deal with title sponsors Omega was extended by five years.
  1. More than 30 different nationalities are in the elite field at the Omega European Masters this week.
  1. Marcus Fraser hopes to extend his Asian Tour Order of Merit lead with a strong cast of hopefuls close behind the Australian.
  1. A total of 22 Asian Tour winners are in the field this week including four Order of Merit champions.
  1. The Asian Olympians in the elite field include Li Haotong, S.S.P. Chawrasia, Miguel Tabuena, Thongchai Jaidee and Siddikur Rahman.
