Double the money payouts at the first event of the PGA Tour 2023

The champion will pocket $2.7 million in prize money, while the golfer who finishes last will still earn $200,000. To pocket $200,000 last year you had to finish in the top 9.

The first event of the PGA Tour in the 2023 administrative year, the Sentry Tournament of Champions, will be held on the island of Maui, Hawaii, Kapalua from January 5 to 8. This is one of 13 elevated events that the PGA will launch in 2023.

Sentry Tournament of Champions is the opening tournament of the PGA Tour 2023

The PGA Tour's "elevated" series of events is promoted as an opportunity for top golfers to compete against each other more often, and the bottom line is that prize money has also been increased to record levels. This is considered a strategy to combat the PGA's LIV, when the tournament led by Saudi Arabia has stormed the professional golf scene in the past year with huge guaranteed contracts and huge bonus funds.

Sentry TOC is the opening event of the PGA Tour 2023 with a prize fund of 15 million USD, while the remaining advanced events are 20 million to 25 million USD each.

However, the uncut event at Kapalua Resort's Plantation Course is still particularly attractive when only 39 players participated in the competition, including 17 golfers in the top 20 in the World Golf Ranking.

The tournament winner will pocket $2.7 million in prize money, while the golfer who finishes last will still earn $200,000.

Compared to 2023, Sentry TOC 2022 only has a total bonus fund of $8.2 million, the first person to finish Cam Smith earns $ 1,476 million. To pocket $200,000 last year you had to finish in the top 9.

Note that 10 years ago, the total prize money for this event was only $5.7 million.

Here is a comparison of the bonus payouts for the two Sentry TOC events 2022 and 2023:
