Nguyen Anh Minh leads Thang Long Junior Master 2023 after the opening round with 9 birdies 09:32, 06/01/2023

At the Vietnam Junior Open 2019 at KN Golf Links Cam Ranh, Hanako Kawasaki surprised the golf community with her achievement in the final round with a 9 birdie scorecard to win the championship. That is the most birdie points a golfer has scored in a youth tournament and since then, before the first round of Thang Long Junior Master took place, no golfer has ever repeated that achievement.

On the first day of competition on Yen Bai Star Golf Course, Nguyen Anh Minh repeated Hanako Kawasaki's achievement. Undoubtedly the best amateur golfer in Vietnam at the moment, Anh Minh comes to Thang Long Junior Master 2023 as the No. 1 candidate for the championship. That was shown when he was the best player while leading the tournament with a score of -5 (67 strokes). Starting from hole 10 Anh Minh scored 3 birdies in a row in the first 3 holes, then a series of 4 birdies from hole 17 to hole 2, in the middle of 7 birdies there were 3 bogeys. Anh Minh's round ended with 2 birdies at holes 7 and 8. This is Nguyen Anh Minh's scoreboard with the most birdies ever.

Two strokes behind Anh Minh and sharing 2nd place in the overall standings are Nguyen Dang Minh and Le Khanh Hung with -3 strokes. Dang Minh got 4 birdies in the opening round, and Le Khanh Hung got 5 birdies, with this achievement Le Khanh Hung ranked first in the U15 group.

Another golfer with impressive results in round 1 is Pham Nam, with -2 strokes Pham Nam is in 4th place. 5th belonged to Doan Uy with even par.

In the U15 Men's group, 2 golfers Le Minh Nghia and Nguyen Trong Hoang are sharing 2nd place with the same total score of +10. The 4th place co-ranks are golfers Tran Nguyen Hai Nam and Ngo Thanh Son.

Female golfer Le Thi Thanh Thuy temporarily leads with +5 strokes. Second place is Nguyen Ha Linh with a total score of +9. Golfer Than Bao Nghi ranked 3rd, 4th place was Nguyen Vu Hoang Anh and 5th was Nguyen Viet Gia Han.

On the first day of competition, golfer Nguyen Tuan Truong An in the U15 group had to quit due to health reasons. Tomorrow the tournament will have the participation of golfers from Group U9 and U12.

Thang Long Junior Master 2023 is the opening event for the youth tournament series in 2023. The tournament organized by Thang Long Youth Golf Club is sponsored by the Vietnam Golf Association and is scored on the World Amateur Golf Ranking - WAGR.
