Tên gọi của Spyglass Hill GC được khơi nguồn cảm hứng từ cuốn tiểu thuyết kinh điển của Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island, xuất bản năm 1883, trong một lần ông lang thang kiếm tìm ý tưởng cho cuốn sách của mình ở khu vực Spyglass. Mở cửa năm 1966, dưới bàn tay của nhà thiết kế tài năng Robert Trent Jones Sr, Spyglass Hill GC đặc trưng bởi 2 nét địa hình riêng biệt tạo nên sức hút riêng trong từng hố golf. Trong đó 5 hố đầu tiên trải dài trên những cồn cát đầy thách thức. 13 hố tiếp theo ẩn mình dưới những rặng thông xanh với những green cao và bẫy cát được bố trí đầy hiểm hóc. Đặc biệt là hố “Black Dog” và “Billy Bones”.

Spyglass Hill Golf Course takes its theme from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island, published in 1883. Local legend maintains that Stevenson once wandered the Spyglass area gathering ideas for his novels. And with this in mind, Robert Trent Jones Sr. set about creating a treasure of his own. Opened in 1966, Spyglass Hill features two distinctly different kinds of terrain that influence the way the holes look and play. The first five holes roll through sandy seaside dunes, challenging you to carefully pick the safest path. The following 13 holes are cut through majestic pines with elevated greens and strategically placed bunkers and lakes to grab the errant shot. Treasure Island-inspired hole names such as “Black Dog” and “Billy Bones” are hints for the unwary.
