Vietnam’s Golf Boom: “Just the Beginning,” says Faldo

Legend’s son shares bold vision at the 2025 Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Laguna Lang Co

Vietnam’s rise as one of Asia Pacific’s leading golf destinations is only just beginning — and the future looks even brighter.

That was the resounding message from Matthew Faldo, Director of the Faldo Series, speaking at a press conference during the penultimate day of the 2025 Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at the acclaimed Laguna Golf Lang Co.

Matthew Faldo, centre, is bullish about Vietnam’s potential as a hub for golf in Asia
"Vietnam has become a country to watch in the world of golf," said Faldo. "Just look at the strength of its young talent and world-class venues like Laguna Lang Co — the momentum is undeniable. We've now hosted six Grand Finals here, and each time, the standard, both on and off the course, rises higher."

Laguna Golf Lang Co, a Sir Nick Faldo Signature Design, has once again proven itself a fitting stage for Asia’s elite juniors. Stephen Banks, Director of Golf at Laguna Golf Lang Co, highlighted the venue’s growing international appeal, particularly among golfers from Australia and New Zealand.

"We offer everything a golf traveller could ask for — championship facilities, top-tier accommodation, and a course that challenges and excites," said Banks.

Beyond championship golf, Laguna Lang Co is also championing sustainability and community engagement. The resort famously uses eco-buffalo to manage the roughs and has forged strong ties with the local community. Partnerships with schools like Loc Vinh aim to instill golf values and life skills among local youth.

Following the press conference, students from Loc Vinh School showcased their burgeoning skills at a special golf clinic using the SNAG Golf System, under the guidance of Banks, a long-standing accredited PGA professional.

Vietnam’s rising status is mirrored by its junior success stories. Bach Cuong Khang, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Golf Association, reflected on the country’s journey:

"When we first entered the Faldo Series, no one knew who we were. Now, our players are winning Grand Finals and leading the field. The series has created heroes and inspired a new generation."

Khang believes Vietnam’s golf ecosystem is only beginning to bloom:

"We may not yet have a deep pool of professional players or major international events, but they will come. Right now, we are investing in the juniors. In five to ten years, I believe Vietnam will be recognised among the world’s top golfing nations."
