In four previous editions of the CIMB Classic, there has been two repeat winners. Ryan Moore won in 2013 and ’14, and Thomas won in 2015 and ’16.

- 1.Two-time defending CIMB Classic champion and world number four Justin Thomas will headline the elite field at this week’s CIMB Classic.
- 2.Thailand will be having its largest representation at the CIMB Classic this year with four players- Phachara Khongwatmai, Poom Saksansin, Jazz Janewattananond and Prayad Marksaeng, flying the kingdom’s flag at the TPC Kuala Lumpur.
- 3.Malaysia’s Gavin Green will be aiming to extend his lead on the Asian Tour Order of Merit as he vies for a good result in his second appearance at the CIMB Classic.
- 4.Malaysia’s Danny Chia will be making his sixth appearance at the CIMB Classic. Chia qualified for the event by winning the CIMB National Championship in July which allocated one of the two sponsor’s exemptions for Malaysian golfers.
- 5.Australia’s Scott Hend finished tied seventh at the CIMB Classic last year after shooting 14-under in the weekend which included a sparkling third round 63.
- 6.India’s Anibran Lahiri, a seven-time Asian Tour winner and now full member on the PGA TOUR, will be making his sixth appearance at the CIMB Classic. He finished tied-third last year.
- 7.England’s Paul Casey is ranked 14th in the Official World Golf Ranking and is the third-highest ranked player in the field this week.
- 8.Korea’s Si Woo Kim is the first Asian player in the PGA TOUR history to win twice before the age of 22. He is making his second start at the CIMB Classic where he finished tied-10th in his debut appearance last year.
- 9.The leading 10 available players from the Asian Tour Order of Merit as of October 9 qualified for the CIMB Classic. They include Gavin Green (Mas), Scott Hend (Aus), David Lipsky (USA), SSP Chawrasia (Ind), Poom Saksansin (Tha), Phachara Khongwatmai (Tha), Jazz Janewattananond (Tha), Prayad Marksaeng (Tha), Juvic Pagunsan (Phi), Richard T.
