Passion Golf Club President – Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuan: “For me, golf is more than a passion!”  08:30, 11/05/2022

How did you get introduced to the game of golf?

I think I'm a big fan of sports. Although I'm not good at it, I’ve played just about every sport. In 2015, I played tennis, but because of a wrist injury, I had to quit. After nearly 2 years of treatment, at the end of 2016 I started to play golf. This decision came to me very naturally, because I myself at that time felt many interesting things about this elegant sport. And I believe that in the future, Vietnamese people will also play golf as much as Koreans because they gradually realize the great values that this sport brings: health, friendships, business opportunities, leisurely moments, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the authentic life on the golf course.

What do you think about golf?

In the first days of studying at Hanoi Golf Academy (now 72+ Golf Academy), I used to find golf boring - lonely practicing, failed ball hitting, etc. For me at that time, golf was a difficult sport because it required many skills combined, and players had to be calm, otherwise it would be easy to give up. But after more than 4 years of playing, I could say that golf is extremely interesting because although you don't have to fight directly on the course with your opponent, you have to fight with yourself. And the most special thing about this sport is that all walks of life, all ages and levels can play together in a match. Just win yourself!

Does golf help your business?

Playing golf helps me a lot in managing and operating my business, from having to manage the game well, get along with my friends, control my emotions while playing, handle difficult situations, rhythmic teamwork, etc. I can apply all of that to manage my business. In fact, playing golf is a great way to gain a lot of advantages. Since playing golf, my business has been much more favorable.

If you prioritized playing golf for health, business development, and passion, what would be your order of priority?

In life, there is always a circle of mutual support: Health without passion and money, it is impossible to play golf. A thriving business without health and passion cannot play golf, neither have passion without money and health. I do not prioritize any factor, but choose to balance everything in life, in which maintaining family happiness will be my top priority.

How did you come to Passion Golf Club?

Most of the founders of Passion Golf Club came from Hanoi Golf Academy, so when we graduated we often played golf together. After a while, we understood that in order to play golf sustainably, there must be a community that helps each other in all areas and goes up together. Passion Golf Club was born and maintained to this day also from this idea. Our goal is to connect the community and create a playground for newcomers to the beauty in golf.

What does the name “Passion” mean to your golf club?

When we graduated from Hanoi Golf Academy, we had about 20 members who regularly played golf together and called each other by the name ANH EM (Brother). However, this name does not satisfy our enthusiasm for golf. One day in September 2017, we sat together and decided to give a meaningful name to be more connected. After 3 hours of debate with a series of ideas and could not agree, until that night, we decided to name the club "Passion" - passion for golf, passion for golf beauty , passion about golf fashion, passion about golf courses, etc.

As the president of the golf club with the most famous people in Vietnam, do you feel "pressured"?

For me, it's not pressure but pride. I am lucky to have a wife who always trusts her husband, so I myself feel comfortable playing golf with beautiful ladies and famous people. Every month, we organize Outing sessions for members to have the opportunity to meet, exchange and share about work, life as well as discuss golf. We have also collaborated with musician Minh Khang, former model Thuy Hanh, to organize charity trips for poor children to overcome difficulties in the South and support people in the Central region with floods in 2020. We also became successful. We also established a Passion Golf Club in Da Nang in 2020 with more than 30 members.

Besides golf, what other hobbies and passions do you have?

In addition to my passion for golf, I have always had a hobby and passion for business. I was once given a Government job offer when I was 25 years old, but I refused it because business has been my dream since I was 15 years old. At that age, I went to Me Linh flower village to import flowers, used to sell peach blossoms at Chuong Duong bridge, used to sell beer in Luong Ngoc Quyen, opened a Game shop, etc., and now anything can be developed. Not all investments and businesses bring success, but I always want to try new fields. 

In your opinion, how to develop and spread the love of golf to the community?

In order to develop and spread the love of golf to the community, it is necessary to organize many large-scale golf movement tournaments to further propagate the cultural and spiritual life of the people. We will go deeper into the younger generation, inspire them, and gradually bring golf into schools, the golf movement of Vietnam will develop stronger.

Are you family oriented and your children follow the same passion for golf as you?

Hiện nay 2 con trai đầu của tôi cũng đã chơi golf. Vợ tôi đang tập thì nghỉ sinh cháu nên giờ vẫn chưa quay lại được với môn chơi. Các cháu có thể sẽ không tham gia thi đấu chuyên nghiệp nhưng cả nhà sẽ chơi golf cùng nhau và thường xuyên tham gia các tour du lịch golf để gia đình ngày càng gắn kết và hạnh phúc hơn.

Now my first 2 sons also play golf. My wife was practicing when she took a break to give birth, so she still can't return to the game. My children may not participate in professional competitions, but my family will play golf together and regularly participate in golf tours to make the family more connected and happier.

What are your golf plans in 2022?

My plan in 2022 and 2023 is to expand Passion Golf Club in Ho Chi Minh City or a city with many golf enthusiasts like us after success with Passion Golf Club in Da Nang. In addition, in 2022 we will try to organize more social activities for members.

Played 18 holes of golf at Sky Lake course with 4 children, in which the third boy is 3 years old and the youngest princess is 14 months on the occasion of the family's New Year's holiday 2022. It was a pleasure to play golf with them!
