Golf industry is broader than we think

Many people dream of being able to turn their golf passion into a career, especially orienting their children from an early age. But it could be a dangerous thing because choosing the wrong career will affect your whole life. How then does someone turn their love for golf into a lifelong career? Some of the following criteria will help you to have more information to decide when choosing a career.

1. Talent. Talent is a prerequisite for deciding on a career choice. However, talent is hidden and not completely revealed. More importantly - talent changes and fluctuates over time. Therefore, there are people who have no talent in math since childhood, but soon later succeed in math research. It means talent can be perfected through hard-working periods and the surrounding environment.

2. Passion. Often, talent leads to passion. But more importantly, passion breeds talent. Without passion, talent dies. Conversely, with passion, a small talent turns into an outstanding aptitude.

3. Labor. Labor here means you are working hard in your chosen profession. Passion drives labor. Labor is an expression of passion. Labor promotes giftedness. Labor turns the amateur into the professional, turns the un-talented into the gifted. Of course it depends on the level.

4. Environment. Environment plays an important role in career success. Talented, passionate, laborious, but if the surrounding environment is not good enough, the results couldn't be high.

5. Determination. The will to make labor becomes more durable, the passion becomes more intense, and the talent to develop. Your determination will limit the negative effects of the environment.

6. Health. All of the above will be reduced when your physical and mental health is unbalanced, and conversely, they will be enhanced when your health is great.

7. Fortune. Fortune is the parameter that does not depend on subjectivity. Fortune is a random parameter that anyone has the right to wait for.

For golf, all of the above should be approached appropriately. Only in the harsh professional golf competition environment will the talent factor come first. As for choosing a career in the golf industry, in general, anyone can be suitable.

To become a professional competing in pro-tournaments normally requires a zero-handicap, and regularly has under-par score - the number of those people who can do that ranges from 1-2%. But to teach golf, it is only necessary to have a one-number handicap, i.e. from 1-9, the number of that people can be reached about 30%. To become a golf manager, golf referee, golf businessman… you just need to know how to play - that means 100% anyone can.

The field of golf is not only becoming pro-golfers, or golf trainers, golf directors, etc. as commonly thought, but also includes designers, architects, golf equipment suppliers, golf tourism agencies…

Therefore, anyone can orient their children to the golf industry. The golf industry is vast, is enough for all skill and talent levels.

Golf training: Self-reliance and professionalization

For different historical reasons, golf was an unwelcome industry in Vietnam from the very beginning. Over the past 3 decades, it has all changed. However, barriers still remain.

But Vietnam's golf industry not only overcomes barriers, but also has different marks compared to the economic sectors since the opening of the market. Golf is an industry in which Vietnamese people soon gain an independent position.

Currently, most golf courses in Vietnam are invested by domestic investors, holding the positions of golf course managers, golf directors, and golf tournament operators. Vietnamese referees are responsible for the golf tournaments’ rules. That is, Vietnamese people have gradually replaced foreign experts after 30 years, which very few economic sectors in Vietnam have. The gap that Vietnam can fill in the future is golf course design. The gap that Vietnamese people might couldn’t enter is the manufacturing of golf equipment.

A bright spot is the launching of the pro-tournament system in Vietnam. It promotes the growth and development of professional golfers, leading to the development of related fields, including golf training.

Currently, golf training in Vietnam is led by a team of Vietnamese golf instructors. Professional golfers in Vietnam today, most of them take golf training as the main major. They teach golf at golf academies, golf courses, in golf technology studios. The Vietnam Golf Association and Vietnam golf academies (like 72+) are now having golf coach training courses. Therefore, the team of Vietnamese golf coaches is constantly expanding. The increase in the number of golf instructors will be the factor driving the increase in the number of golf students.

However, there is much more to be desired. That is:

• Vietnam’s golf instructors is constantly improving their qualifications, professionalism, and possessing advanced technology on par with the world’s level
• Facilities for golf training need to be further developed, both in terms of quantity and in terms of quality equipment. The emergence of technological golf studios is an important element of golf training.
• There must be a professional marketing method to attract people to learn golf. The increase in the number of golf students is an important parameter to determine the progress of golf training.
• Focus on the goal of attracting a large number of children and teenagers to participate in golf lessons. The large number of children and children participating in golf lessons will determine the number of Vietnamese golf talents.

National government and society need a reasonable adaptation strategy

Sports represent the nation, so every country needs a sports strategy from the state.

To define golf as a profession, one must live by that profession. Professional golf is the backbone of the golf industry. Pro tournaments can be compared to the "marrow" of the professional golf "spine". Therefore, there must be a pro golf tournament system, and there must be a professional Golf Association.

Vietnamese sports are managed and financed by the government. In our country, a sports network has been established from the central to the local level. As long as there is a reasonable policy for golf, all will reap results. Looking at Thailand, in terms of women's golf, Thailand is currently in the top 5 leading countries in the world.

With top-notch golf, the government needs appropriate policies and financial resources to train talented golfers, starting from young golf. To have Vietnamese golfers competing in the world's largest golf arenas such as the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour, it must start from the government. Relying only on spontaneous socialization, the road will be very long.

The number of golfers is a parameter that determines wealth and prosperity. The richer the country, the more golf players there are. Therefore, the government needs to see golf as a normal economic sector, without levying a special consumption tax on golf. Eliminating the excise tax on golf will contribute to promoting the rapid development of the golf industry.
