The infamous 'monster' bunker made S.H. Kim has triple bogey

In round two of The American Express 2023, S.H. Kim encountered a rare situation that he probably did not want to talk about in his career.

The situation happened on the 16th hole par-5 on PGA West in La Quinta, California. This hole has the most famous bunker in the world. Unfortunately, S.H.'s third shot on this hole. Kim hit the flagpole with the ball, then bounced back and rolled down the bunker at the back and got stuck under a rake.

There are not too many ways to escape this bunker dubbed "monster". The distance from the bunker foot to the green measured is 18 feet, or 5.5 meters. To get up or down the golfer must slide or have support to climb.

After the ball was released from the rake, it took Kim four shots to get the ball out of the bunker. His first three shots failed when the ball rolled back into the bunker. He ended the hole with an 8-stroke triple bogey.

On the next par-3 17th hole Kim scored a birdie with a spectacular putt from 24 feet. However, he did not pass the cut of The American Express 2023.
