Hole of the Month: Quivira Golf Club #5

Located on the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico is one of Jack Nicklaus’ wonderful signature creations, in which hole #5 is the most challenge and unforgettable.

Quivira Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico is a great option for northern golfers still looking for a wintertime getaway. The course’s first four holes are all unique from one another, but virtually all golfers would admit the real fun begins at No. 5 – after what amounts to a nearly a 5-minute ride up the mountainside. Just 310 yards from the tee, most will play a short shot off the tee to maximize approach position to the green, which is about a 100 foot drop from the fairway and is backed right up to the ocean cliff, still some 200 feet above sea level.

One change from the original design already took place – the removal of bunkers on the downslope leading from fairway to green. Hitting from such a bunker and trying to stop the ball from rolling off the back of the perched green would be nearly impossible, so this was a good move.
