Green Beyond the Fairway

Winning the Vietnam Golf Sustainability Awards 2025 is only the beginning for Hoiana Shores. The true distinction lies in a green-first philosophy and a long-term vision led by GM Wee Peng Siong.

What does the Vietnam Golf Sustainability Award mean to Hoiana Shores?

This award is validation that our effort over the years has paid off. As for me, I’m just honored to be able to lead the team in HSGC on this initiative.

What makes Hoiana Shores truly distinctive?

Firstly, we are the only true “links” golf in Vietnam. This is affirmed by the members of “The R&A” who spent a week here playing golf & sharing their experience with us in comparison to all the best links in the world! Also, we sell intrinsic value to our guests because we are never very busy, just steady, so that translates to time, which enhances an experience which when savored becomes memorable.

How is “sustainability” reflected in the club’s everyday operations?

In the fact that HSGC almost does not have “one-time use” plastics on site & we have a lot of recyclables instead. Also, we strive each year in our financial forecast to be sustainable, albeit consistently raising the bar with the strategy we adopt. I trust that covers the holistic definition of “sustainability.”

How does Hoiana Shores balance the environment and the golfer experience?

I believe our golf experience is truly premium, reflected in the strong feedback from players and the industry magazines that spent a full day here reviewing the course. On the environmental front, Hoiana Shores is Vietnam’s first GEO-certified sustainable golf course. We follow strict guidelines to maintain this status and are working with professional organizations and local authorities to incorporate even more best-practice sustainability initiatives as we advance.

Where do you envision Hoiana Shores in the next 3–5 years?

As 1 of the Top 5 courses in SE Asia providing a more refined experience coupled with future technology, & hopefully another 18 holes.

What are the key elements for Vietnam’s golf industry to grow sustainably?

Vietnam has got good fundamentals with great locations & human capital. Not to mention the buoyant economy that is set to grow at 8% per annual. So, it’s in a good place to prosper & for more players like Le Khanh Hung to excel.

However! You need to furthermore enhance accessibility. That means more public courses that are affordable for the masses. Only then can foundations thrive and be prepared for partners to further grow the game. Even with the status, Vietnam has already won the SEA Games & NOMURA Cup, beating stalwarts like Thailand. So, can you imagine what could happen if there was more accessibility? I again I go back to the talent & human capital Vietnam has. So, it’s time to move in that direction.
