Golf in Korea

There are many similarities between the Korean and Vietnamese golf industry, so the future of Vietnamese golf can be seen from the reality of golf in Korea.

Golf was introduced to Korea in the late 19th century when a group of Britons working for the Korean Tourism Organization built a six-hole course next to the Korean Customs Office. At that time, golf was very unfamiliar to everyone, for the next century it was still out of reach for most Koreans in the late 1980s.

Se-Ri Pak - a LPGA rookie, won the US Open 1998.

Like in Vietnam today, most Koreans at that time considered golf a privilege for the rich, CEOs and high-ranking military or government officials, golf was a tool for entrepreneurs and Politicians use for public affairs.

An important turning point came in 1998 when Se-Ri Pak - a LPGA rookie, won the US Open championship. At that time, the Korean economy was in a serious crisis. Se-ri-Pak's victory, which was broadcast live nationwide, was inspirational, providing a boost to a country in dire need of a hero. Koreans suddenly awakened to the ability of their nation. Thus, a new generation of young female golfers – affectionately known as the Seri-Kids – was born, and after just two decades they have dominated the world of women's golf.

Today, along with Korea's strong economic recovery, golf is the fastest growing sport with more than 3 million players, accounting for about 6% of the population of 80% male and 20% female. The number of golf courses also increased from more than 200 courses at the end of 1998 to about 700 courses at present.

However, until now, most Koreans still tell you that to be able to access this game must be those who have time and money. According to the survey, Korea's largest golfing population is male between the ages of 41 and 50, accounting for 44.5% of all golfers. They are a class of young entrepreneurs who have just achieved success from the 4.0 revolution and the start-up movement. They have the health, the finances and the desire to have access to the best of the world.

Korean golf is growing day by day

Born much later than the history of golf in the world, young Koreans have absorbed advanced techniques from veteran golfers in Europe and the US, promoting the strengths of Asians. In particular, Korea has exploited the outstanding strength of women's golf - when the women's golf arena in the world is not crowded and there are not many strong opponents.

Korean female golfers have the same physical strength and height as the West, but have outstanding ingenuity and have been trained from a young age with the passion and inspiration evoked by successful Korean female stars. Nationally, they have been present in the world women's golf rankings and created a trend of stylish and eye-catching clothing for this sport.

Currently in Vietnam, the number of young entrepreneurs is increasing and coming to golf is increasing. The number of women's golf is also increasing significantly, if we develop a methodical women's golf movement like Korea, it will certainly be a good direction for Vietnam.
