Vietnam’s Golf team at SEA Games 31 - the youngest golf team in sports history 03:59, 06/05/2022

After 3 qualifying rounds to select the national team to attend the31st SEA Games, Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) has announced the official national golf teamlist with nine players. The best 09 faces to represent Vietnam including: Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Khanh Hung, Nguyen Bao Long, Nguyen Quang Tri and Nguyen Dang Minh in the men’s team, and Doan Xuan Khue Minh, Pham Thi Yen Vi and Le Thi Thanh Thuy in the women’s.

All 9 players participated in the 2022 National Championship competition organized by Tien Phong Newspaper in Hai Phong to accumulate expertise before entering the very fierce SEA Games 31 arena. On the golf course in Hai Phong of the 2022 National Championship, former national players such as Nguyen Thao My, Truong Chi Quan, Ngo Bao Nghi... were all present to compete, thereby exchanging experiences with the juniors.

Although there are 7 out of 9 athletes are under the age of 18, they have had a lot of experience in actual competition and have competed effectively, winning important results in their careers, such as Nguyen Anh Minh - the reigning champion of Golf Lexus Challenge and National Golf Championship 2022; Doan Xuan Khue Minh won the National Championship in 2017, and currently the defending champion of this tournament; Nguyen Bao Long and Nguyen Dang Minh, national champions in 2019 and 2020 respectively while Chuc An is the one who has lifted many championship trophies at a young age. 

Mr Le Hung Nam, General Secretary of the Vietnam Golf Association emphasized: “The top goal of the Vietnam Golf Association is to access a high level of sport in the region. I hope the SEA Games will be a good opportunity for our athletes to rub, exchange and learn with our friends from the Southeast Asia area.”

“The Golf team participating in this year's SEA Games is the youngest team ever. Compared to us in the past, the members of the current team are invested in better training, skills and achievements are improved and developed a lot. However, compared to golf in developed countries in the region such as Thailand and the Philippines, the gap is still quite far and we still have a long way to go. The team came to the SEA Games with the spirit of learning and accumulating experience, but still carrying the desire to win. Having the home team advantage, we will fight hard for our country, for the trust of our fans and hope to create unexpected achievements”, Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong - head coach of the Vietnam Golf National Team shared about the opportunities of the Vietnamese team at this year’s SEA Games.

With the outstanding development of young golf in particular and the golf movement in general in Vietnam in recent years, we still hope to be named in the regional golf map.
