Branden Grace wins LIV Golf Portland, takes home over $4 million
The 34-year-old South African chipped in for birdie on the par-4 16th to take a two-shot lead with two holes to play and rode that margin to victory at 13 under. Grace shot a 7-under 65 in the final round at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club outside of Portland, Oregon, thanks to just one bogey and eight birdies, including three over the last four holes.
Grace, whose last win came on the PGA Tour at the 2021 Puerto Rico Open, followed in the footsteps of fellow countryman Charl Schwartzel, who won the inaugural LIV Golf event outside London last month.
For winning the tournament, Grace earned $4 million from the $20 million individual purse. His Stinger GC team also shared $1,500,00 which meant another $375,000 for Grace, bringing his haul for the week to $4.375,000.
Three weeks ago at the first event outside of London, Grace tied for third and earned $1,275,000 plus $750,000 for being on the winning team. That’s $6.4 million in two tournaments – or about half his earnings on the PGA Tour, dating to 2009 ($12,226,197).
The next LIV Golf event is at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey, July 29-31.
