Let's get swinging! (part 3)
HOW SHOULD NEWBIES GET GOOD TRAINING WHEN IT IS SOMETIMES CONFUSING TO LEARN FROM DIFFERENT COACHES WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF SWINGS?
One of the most common traits of golfers looking for the perfect swing is to be very technical. By being technical, they are always changing and trying to unlock the secret of the perfect swing which is not achievable. The perfect swing is one that is repeatable for the player swinging the club. My advice for all golfers, whether they are new or have played the game for years, is to find a coach they feel comfortable with. It’s important that you understand the coach and his/her requirements and methods for trying to improve your swing. There are a number of different approaches to teaching golf, so a consistent approach is important. Always choose a golf teacher who has a proper qualification.
HOW MUCH TIME DO WE NEED TO MASTER A GOOD SWING?
To master a swing takes many, many hours of practice. However, if you are practicing the correct methods and are dedicated to improving, you can learn to swing the club in a consistent way that suits you. Remember, it’s not about the perfect swing - it’s about your ability to swing the club to ensure clean contact and straight hits.
CAN YOU GIVE A GENERAL ADVICE FOR EACH GOLFER?
Every golfer has their own personal swing... There are no identical swings in Golf and each player has their own characteristics that make their swing unique. Golf swings can be similar in general fundamentals that make it possible for a player to hit the ball. Correct alignment, grip, and stance and posture all help and can be copied however the way a player swings the club is determined by their own technique, body shape and swing thoughts. My advice to all golfers is to trust and practice your own swing so that it can be repeated over and over again. Keep it simple and don’t clutter your mind with many different swing thoughts. The most visible golf swings we see are the PGA Pros we can see on TV. While most of them have some basic swing characteristics that look similar, each of them has a different technique with takeaway, downswing, and follow- through. Finally, if you do want to improve your swing technique, see a PGA Golf Professional who can help with all aspects of your swing and bring out the most from your ability.
