Talking with COACH BEOM JO KIM

As one of the favourite Korean golf coaches at the Saigon South driving range, Beom Jo Kim wishes to bring golf closer to the Korean community living in Vietnam and enjoy a peaceful life with his family here.

Why do you play golf?

Golf is a sport that has no finish line. It can never always be good or bad and this is very attractive. I was desperate after having experienced Driver yips, but on the other hand I had an opportunity to study it. Realising the issue and working hard to fix it gets you so excited. I guess this is why I love golf.

Why did you choose Vietnam to work as a golf coach?

Well, I came here to have an adventure in a new land. South Saigon golf range is where I work and I have a chance to meet lots of Korean golfers. Meanwhile, I see an increasing number of Vietnamese golfers coming to the range for practice and hopefully I have more opportunity to teach Vietnamese golfers as well..

What are the advantages and challenges of being a Korean golf coach in Vietnam?

A good thing about being a Korean professional golfer in Vietnam is that if you are able to speak Vietnamese, it draws more attention. By helping develop the golf industry in Vietnam I want to teach Korean and Vietnamese golfers here.

Any thoughts about the Korean golf community in Saigon?

There are numerous SNS social golf communities in Saigon. If tournaments combine both Vietnamese and Korean golfers through the communities it will be a great to learn etiquette and rules together.

What are your plans for the future?

I hope Covid-19 will go away so my wife and son can safely come back to me in Vietnam. I am pleased with my life in Vietnam and will work hard to become one of the best coaches and live a happy life with my family in Vietnam.
