Jordan Spieth's cliffside par save at AT&T Pebble Beach
The PGA TOUR returned to Pebble Beach, California from Feb 3-6, 2022 for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The 2022 tournament had seen nine of the top 50 golfers in the world line up, including former World No. 1 Jordan Spieth, who looked to win for a second time at the coastal resort after coming out on top in 2017. The event was played across three courses, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Monterey Peninsula Country Club.
Fans and celebrities made a welcome return to Pebble Beach, after their absence in 2021 due to COVID-19. Among the celebrities teed up are Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, musician Jake Owen and actor Bill Murray who first competed in the event 30 years ago. FedExCup champion Patrick Cantlay, 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose and 2015 PGA Championship winner Jason Day completed the strong field.
“I never had a situation where you can see a ball, get a swing on it, but you’re not going to play it,” said Jordan Spieth after finishing his third round at the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. But after seeing that his tee shot came to rest on the edge of the cliff on the par-4 eighth hole, no one would have blamed him for taking a drop.
“Michael [Greller, his caddy] hated it. He tried to talk me out of it three times. I don’t blame him, looking back,” Spieth said. “I’m just glad I made the par to make it worth it, because I don’t think I would have made par with a drop, but if I made bogey it would have really not been worth it.”
