Anh Minh Nguyen off to an impressive start at the Amer Ari Invitational

Vietnamese golfer Anh Minh Nguyen made a strong start at the Amer Ari Invitational, held at Mauna Lani Resort – North Course in Hawaii. Representing Oregon State University, the freshman carded a 64 (-8) to finish the opening round tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard.

Despite this being only his fourth collegiate appearance, the 19-year-old showcased remarkable poise and precision throughout the day. Anh Minh recorded nine birdies and just one bogey, including a superb opening stretch of six birdies in his first nine holes, thanks to accurate iron play and confident putting.

One of his highlights came at the 184-yard par-3 5th, where he struck a pinpoint tee shot to set up an easy birdie. Maintaining composure through the back nine, he overcame a lone bogey at the 14th hole with three more birdies to complete a commanding round of 64 – the best score among all Oregon State players.

His performance helped the Beavers close the day in sixth place on the team leaderboard at 20-under-par (-20), remaining within striking distance of the top contenders. Alongside teammate Ryland Johnson, Anh Minh currently leads Oregon State’s lineup.

The Amer Ari Invitational is one of the premier collegiate golf events in the NCAA Division I, featuring top programs from across the United States. Anh Minh’s presence in the top five after the opening round not only marks a personal milestone but also represents another encouraging step for Vietnamese golf on the international stage.

The tournament continues over the next two rounds, where Anh Minh will look to maintain his form, chase a higher individual finish, and contribute to Oregon State’s push up the team standings.
