The working schedule of the Hoiana Shores golf course maintenance department is a typical example for almost all golf courses in Vietnam.

Note that a machine inspection including pre-mixing of the spray bath, inspection of nozzles and piping (if necessary) is usually checked the day before the cutter inspection for sharpness, cutting height and blade adjustment.

4:30 a.m:

Breakfast is served to the staff

4:50 a.m:

Briefly meet to ensure that every employee is informed of their specific duties and expected results from the side jobs. This is also important to keep up to date with changes in weather or tee times.

5:00 a.m:

  • The night irrigation schedule usually ends around 4:30 a.m. (summer) to ensure employees are free to move around the yard without getting wet.
  • The mower, roller, and course and bunker preparation crews begin work on the course from the main entrance to the practice range, then onto holes 1-18, 19.
  • Golfer's walkways are checked to ensure the best preparation for any issues that arise prior to arrival. An early course inspection is planned to ensure that the golf course is consistent in both the playing experience and aesthetic aspects. The Irrigation Officer will start checking the moisture at this time and it is recorded for daily hand watering purposes.
  • The maintenance manager and assistant begin an inspection of the yard to detect problems that need to be resolved while in operation or in service later in the day. This also includes trimming missing areas, inspecting perimeters, cutting lines, yard preparation, irrigation problems, fly sand, insect problems, pests, blowing weeds, plant flaws caddies such as not scratching the bunker or not fixing the ball mark, etc., all of which are carefully checked by the golf course maintenance team. The yard inspection usually takes 3 hours a day with two people.

9:00 - 9:30 a.m:

The mower, roller, and course and bunker preparation crews usually finish their tasks around 9:00 - 9:30 a.m. (Hoiana Shores has 2.6 hectares of green grass compared to about 1.5 hectares of conventional yards).

9:30 - 9:45 a.m:

Clean the machines and prepare the side work. All operators will return to the maintenance section to clean and refuel the machinery they have used. After cleaning, they drive the machine back to the mechanic workshop to prepare for the next day. Any employee performance issues are rectified immediately and employees are shown how to do it right through the implementation of the SOP.

9:45 a.m – 2:00 p.m (including 30-minute lunch break): Side work

There's a lot of work to be done, but typically this will include hand weeding, spraying, spreading sand, tee & green ball marking repair, clubhouse yard care, coir spreading, tree trimming, irrigation adjustment, nursery care, etc. The Supervisor must ensure all employees work as a team to complete the overall task and to the expected standard.

1:45 – 2:00 p.m:

Conduct a daily supervisory meeting to review work done and issues that arise from day to day, plan for the next day, and add necessary extra work to the list.

Employees return to the workshop and clean up their tools, refuel and store their machines before the end of the shift at 2pm.

2:00 – 8:00 p.m:

Any unfinished urgent quests will be executed during this time.
