SEA Games 31: Golf tournament format and schedule 10:59, 07/05/2022

Just like every year, golf at SEA Game 31 still includes 2 individual and team events for both men and women, with 4 sets of medals awarded. 

Individual competition will be played in stroke play (Stroke Play). The golfers will go through 3 rounds on the Heron Lake Golf Course, the gold medal will go to the athlete with the least strokes after 54 holes. If the golfers have the same results in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place  at the end of the final round,  the playoff series will be held at the golf hole decided by the organizers.

Team competition: The 8 teams with the best results in individual competition will participate in the quarterfinals of the team content with the calculation of ranking points as follows:

+ Men's team: In each individual round, the organizers will select the best performance of 3 out of 4 golfers of each team. The team with the best total score after 3 rounds of individual competition will be ranked 1st seed in the team competition.

+ Women's team: Similar to the men's competition, the organizers will select the best performance of 2 out of 3 athletes from each team. The team with the best total score after 3 rounds of individual competition will be ranked 1st seed in the team competition.

Team competitions will be played in a Fighting format with 3 Singles Match matches in the men's group, and 2 matches in the women's group. Each win will get 1 point, a draw will get 0.5 point and a loss will get 0 point. In the men's group, the team that reaches 2 points first will win and advance to the next round. In the women's group, it is 1.5 points. If there is a tie, each team will choose 1 golfer to participate in the playoff round with the hole selected by the organizers.

The individual content of golf will officially start on May 13 and will end on May 15. After that, the team competition will take place in 3 days 16-18/5 on Dam Vac golf course.

At the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines, the Vietnamese golf team finished with T26 of the 38 men's group players (Bao Long) and ranked 16th in the 17 individual women's groups (Bao Long).

This period, with the advantage of being the home team, the Vietnamese team is expected to improve performance. The entire team competed for the National Golf Championship at Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong to accumulate expertise before entering the regional sports field.

Considering the Vietnamese golf team at SEA Games 31, Khue Minh is the most experienced face with two occasions to attend the SEA Games in 2017, in Malaysia and 2019 in the Philippines, besides the 18th ASIAD match. On the World Amateur Golf Rankings  (WAGR), Khue Minh is currently ranked 2.201.

15-year-old Thai golfer Ratchanon Chantananuwat is the athlete who receives the most attention when he owns a huge record in amateur and professional tournaments. In April, Ratchanon Chantananuwat became the youngest champion in the history of the men's professional tournament (15 years and 37 days) with world ranking points (OWGR) when he won first place at the Trust Golf Asian Mixed Cup with a total score -20 strokes.

At SEA Games 31, golf will take place from May 13 to May 18 at Heron Lake Golf Course (Vinh Yen, Vinh Phuc).
