Junior golf needs YOU

Everyone pays lip service to the importance of kids playing golf, but who is actually increasing the numbers of juniors out on the course? Robert Bicknell has advice for everyone on how they can make a difference.

We all talk about the need to increase the amount of junior golf in Vietnam, but really, how should we go about it? Nowadays, just getting a child to clean their room is an accomplishment and, for them, exercise is something they do with their fingers as they post messages online.

When I first came to Vietnam 23 years ago, you almost never saw a fat Vietnamese kid, but nowadays we have kids that look like little bowling balls rolling down the street with a phone stuck either to the side of their head, or in their hand as they reply to a message.

This is not a good thing, so we need to find a way to get kids active. Golf is an excellent way to do it because they don’t have to run up and down a field – which they couldn’t do anyway because they’re out of shape – and they can stop and eat every three holes.
