Most notably, the legendary watch among professional divers – the new generation Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller (image below) – is updated in celebration of its 50th anniversary, and carries several firsts in Rolex’s watchmaking history.
For the first time, the new Sea-Dweller is equipped with a Cyclops lens on the crystal at 3 o’clock to enhance the reading of the date. The dial bears the name Sea-Dweller in red, a defining feature referenced from the first model created in 1967; while the large Chromalight hour markers and hands emit a long-lasting blue glow for excellent legibility in dark conditions. The new, larger, 43mm case houses Rolex’s new calibre 3235 movement marks the first time employed in a Rolex Professional category watch. The Sea-Dweller’s Oyster case in highly corrosion-resistant 904L steel and fitted with the world-renowned Triplock triple waterproofness system, guarantees waterproofness to a depth of 1,220 metres (4,000 feet). Other technical features widely coveted by professional divers include the helium escape valve invented and patented by Rolex 50 years ago, and the 60-minute graduated, unidirectional rotatable black Cerachrom bezel, which enable divers to precisely and safely monitor their dive and decompression times. Like all Rolex watches, the Sea-Dweller is covered by the Superlative Chonometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015.
Other iconic models in this year’s collection include the Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master II which features a new dial and characteristic new hands; new versions of crowd favourite Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold and Oysterflex bracelet; the Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller which, for the first time, comes in a choice of yellow Rolesor or white Rolesor; the classic Oyster Perpetual Datejust 41 and Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust 28 in 904L steel or white Rolesor; and the Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 40, with its rotatable bezel set with multicolour sapphires, green tsavorites, and a triangular diamond at 12 o’clock.
The Cellini Moonphase in Everose gold is a new addition to Rolex’s Cellini collection, featuring an exclusive display of the lunar cycle with a blue enamelled disc at 6 o’clock, with the full moon depicted by a meteorite applique and the new moon by a silver ring. Likewise, the Cellini Moonphase carries the Superlative Chronometer status, ensuring high-precision performance and accuracy.
